Our London based team
Chief Executive Officer
Stephen Decani is CEO at Newscape Capital Group and is responsible for the management of the business having led the group since inception in 2008. He has over 20 years experience across Investment Management, Banking, & Trading. Previously a Partner at a start-up alternative investment firm Stephen was responsible for the institutional business and deal origination across private equity, venture capital and asset backed lending. Stephen has held other senior roles including Global Head of Distribution for the international arm of Rand Merchant Bank, Head of Business Development for Banking and Asset Management in the Financial Services team at KPMG in London and at N.M. Rothschild in Asia where he worked initially within asset management and subsequently within the Bank as a trader and market maker on the gold and silver metals desk. Stephen leads the group’s commercial activities while working closely with institutional clients and partners.
Senior Advisor to the Board
Philippe Bonnefoy is Senior Advisor to the Board at Newscape. Philippe has been managing money globally for over 30 years having built a number of successful investment businesses including the Cedar Fund which was sold to Erste Bank AG in 2007 and Cedar Partners Investment Management (formerly COMAS Management), which was the external investment advisor to Commerzbank for alternative investments. Philippe’s other roles have included Managing Director responsible for trading and international activities for one of the world’s largest proprietary trading firms established by former Kidder, Peabody’s & Co. executives. He began his career at Kidder, Peabody & Co. in New York in corporate finance before joining the team that founded the International Investment business in London where he managed the international equity portfolios for the BHP Pension Fund and other institutional clients.
Chief Investment Officer
Charlie Morris is Chief Investment Officer at Newscape having joined in May 2016 to restructure and oversee the direct Funds business. He is the Lead Manager of the Newscape Diversified Growth Fund, the Co-Manager to the Newscape Emerging Markets Equity Fund and is a senior member of the investment committee where he is involved with all of the firms investment activity. Prior to Newscape Charlie spent 17 years at HSBC Global Asset Management as the Head of Absolute Return managing a multi-asset fund range with assets in excess of $3 billion. He is a familiar face in the financial media and writes frequently as the editor of the Fleet Street Letter Britain’s oldest financial newsletter. Prior to fund management, Charlie was an officer in the Grenadier Guards, British Army.
John Brett is the Chairman of Newscape Group and Newscape Wealth Partners, the group’s wealth management acquisition business. John works with the CEO and Executive teams to devise and implement overall corporate and distribution strategy. He has over 30 years’ experience with over 20 in investment management. Prior to joining Newscape John held senior executive roles at Aberdeen Asset Management (AAM) and Scottish Widows Investment Partnership (SWIP). John originally trained as and worked as a lawyer in Aberdeen. He joined Aberdeen Asset Management (AAM) in 1997 where he was Head of Legal before joining Scottish Widows Investment Partnership (SWIP) to hold director roles in Legal Risk and Compliance and then Sales and Marketing. He returned to Aberdeen Asset Management as Global Head of Distribution at AAM and was on the Group Executive Committee with responsibility for a 500-plus team based across 30 offices in 24 countries.
John Owens is a Board Advisor at Newscape and advises the business on pension fund investment and risk management methodology. Currently a Principal at global placement firm First Avenue, John began his career as a pensions manager before moving to consultancy where he provided advice on all aspects of pension fund benefit design, insurance of risk benefits risk and investment strategy. For the last 20 years John has worked for a variety of asset managers where he was responsible for establishing and running highly regarded and successful investment sales, client service and consulting relationship teams across a wide range of market segments, including IFA’s, fund of fund providers, manager of manager and investment consultants. John has been a regular speaker at trustee training events, sits on a series of industry judging panels and been voted marketer of the year by his peers.
Advisor on Global Equity Strategy
Robert Swift is an Advisor on Global Equity Strategy to Newscape responsible for contributing to emerging market strategy and the investment committee on general global market insights. He also runs an advisory business specialising in equity smart beta. Robert has over 30 years’ experience in managing money globally across multiple asset classes in both traditional and alternative strategies. A Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Robert has held senior positions in companies in the UK, the USA, and Australia. He previously managed $20bn as head of multi strategies at BT Investment Management in Sydney and prior to that was jointly responsible for over $200bn while a Chief Investment Officer at Putnam Investments in Boston, USA. He also sits on the investment committee at Local Government Super, an $8bn industry superannuation fund, based in Australia.
John is a professional Advisor to Newscape Capital Group, specialising in greater London real-estate markets. He is a member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and has over 25 years experience in Greater-London property markets spending 10 years as a partner at both Knight Frank and Allsopp LLP. John brings a great depth of experience to the team.
Head of Portfolio Construction
James is Head of Portfolio Construction at Newscape. He commenced his career in the City in 1999 as an Equity Analyst with Societe Generale, and subsequently with Keefe, Bruyette and Woods. After more than 10 years analysing the financial sector, James moved in to wealth management holding senior positions including Chief Investment Officer and MD at Rowan Dartington. He holds an MBA (Finance) from City University Business School and has been ranked by Extel, Institutional Investor and Starmine.
Head of Sales
Tony is Head of Sales at Newscape Capital Group with responsibility for sales and distribution of the Managed Portfolio Service, Diversified Growth and Emerging Market funds. Tony began his career at Gartmore Fund Managers and for the last 20 years has worked in a variety of roles for groups such as Aberdeen Asset Management and Scottish Life, promoting a wide range of products to the UK and European intermediary markets – Advisory & Discretionary IFAs, Life Company and Platform Strategic Partners, Nationals & Networks.
Gilles De Charsonville
Fixed income specialist
Gilles de Charsonville is responsible for fixed income trading & execution at Newscape. Gilles has over 27 years of trading experience in international markets with a specialisation in emerging markets and has worked for a number of the world’s largest investment banks and intermediaries. He trades, executes and manages fixed income risk on a daily basis as well as contributing to portfolio construction. Gilles studied business and administration at Institut Superieur de Gestion in France and holds an MBA from University of San Francisco, EUA program.
Alex is a Portfolio Manager at Newscape and is part of the investment team responsible for product, fund selection, and business strategy. Alex has more than 14 years of experience working in asset management.
Prior to joining Newscape in 2014, Alex spent three years as a Fund Manager for City of London Investment Management in London where he was primarily responsible for the Absolute Return and Tactical Income products working mainly with institutional investors. Alex previously held investment management responsibilities at FNY Capital in New York focusing on event driven and special situation strategies. Previous to this, Alex’s experience was mainly working within alternative investment firms in New York, including Yakira Partners where he worked on event-driven strategies, Omega Advisors working in Global Macro strategies, and Perry Capital working within a managerial operational context.
Alex is currently expected to graduate with an Executive MBA from London Business School (2017).
Fahad Hassan is a Senior Portfolio Manager at Newscape with over 13 years’ experience in fund management managing both retail and institutional equity mandates. He was previously with Legal and General Investment Management before joining Newscape and combines fundamental screening with detailed understanding of industry specific drivers to generate investment ideas. At Newscape Fahad is the Lead Manager to the New Perspectives Emerging Market Equity Income Fund, a co-Manager on the Diversified Growth Fund and Fund Manager responsible for Portfolio Construction of the LGBT Diversity Fund having devised and built the quantitative models. Fahad is a CFA institute charter holder and is currently studying for the Chartered Wealth Manager certification.
Richard Rhodes is the Finance Director at Newscape. Richard began his career at Merrill Lynch with roles in Capital Markets, Corporate, Private Client and latterly the CFO of the International Private Cient Bank. Prior to joining Newscape, Richard was the Finance Director for Succession, a Wealth Management consolidator where he was instrumental in raising private equity funding and successfully completing 10 acquisitions. Richard is a CIMA qualified accountant.
Khalifa Bin Khadim
Head of MENA Relations
Khalifa Bin Khadim is Head of MENA Relations at Newscape. His role is primarily focused on deal
origination and strategic relationship management across the region as well as day to day input
into the development of the business in London. An entrepreneurial and accomplished
executive, Khalifa is involved at the most senior corporate and government levels in the MENA
region as well as significant strategic relationships in the UK, US and Asia. His experience and
knowledge spans corporate business including import export finance and cross border business
support, as well as family offices, finance and real estate development.
Business Development Director
Jeremy Philippi is a Business Development Director within the Families and Sovereigns team. He spent the last 4 years working within the family office market assisting families with acquiring both talented individuals and introducing like minded families to work together on co-investments. As a Partner within a Headhunting business previously Jeremy worked closely with Ultra High Net Worth Client Advisors, Single and Multi Family Offices to source both individuals and solutions for Advisors and Principals. Jeremy has been involved in a number of start-ups ranging from headhunting, procurement and a technology company.
Head of Capital Markets
Prior to joining Newscape Sam spent ten years with Australian based Investment Bank, Macquarie Group. His experience spans Institutional Equity Sales Trading in Asia, Capital Markets and Investment Advice in Sydney Australia where he worked with a number of Australia’s premier companies and Families. Sam brings a depth of financial services and global markets experience to the team. He holds a Master of International Economics and Finance and a Bachelor of Business Management from the University of Queensland, Australia.
Senior Relationship Director
Boris is a Senior Relationship Director at Newscape. He specialises in bespoke high net-worth strategic and structural planning as well as execution, focusing on clients from Central and Eastern Europe. Having previous experience in Corporate Finance he is also strongly involved in Newscape’s Capital Markets division. Boris has an academic background in Business Administration and Law, holding an MBA and LL.M from Imadec University in Vienna. He has 10 years of professional experience in Business Development and Relationship Management in various positions in Austria, Liechtenstein and London.
Director of Investment Operations
Daniel is a Director of Investment Operations at Newscape Capital Group where he is responsible for conducting research for the Model Portfolio Service on collective investment schemes, closed end funds, investment trusts and other securities.
Emma is an Investment Analyst at Newscape Capital Group where she is responsible for conducting research on collective investment schemes, closed end funds, investment trusts and other securities. Emma graduated from the University of Exeter with a BSc in Maths and Economics.
Investor Relations Associate
Ieva is Investor Relations Associate at Newscape Capital Group. She is responsible for relationship management and public relations. She has previously worked on tech start-ups with responsibilities of capital raising and business development. Ieva graduated from the University of Westminster with a BSc in Finance with Management.
Ryan recently graduated with a first class honorary degree in International business and Entrepreneurship. Prior to joining Newscape he completed a traineeship programme at Julius Baer. Ryan’s experience spanned across investment consulting and acquisitions, and Portfolio management, where he worked directly with senior portfolio managers, providing analytical data on portfolio performance, as well as managing cash and investment products.
Julie is an Investment Analyst at Newscape Capital Group where she is responsible for settlements and conducting research for the Fund Management. Julie graduated from Zealand Business College, Denmark where she studied International Business and Language. She is currently doing a traineeship at Newscape with Trainees Abroad (PIU Denmark).
