Stephen Decani

Chief Executive Officer

Stephen Decani is CEO at Newscape Capital Group and is responsible for the management of the business having led the group since inception in 2008. He has over 20 years experience across Investment Management, Banking, & Trading. Previously a Partner at a start-up alternative investment firm Stephen was responsible for the institutional business and deal origination across private equity, venture capital and asset backed lending. Stephen has held other senior roles including Global Head of Distribution for the international arm of Rand Merchant Bank, Head of Business Development for Banking and Asset Management in the Financial Services team at KPMG in London and at N.M. Rothschild in Asia where he worked initially within asset management and subsequently within the Bank as a trader and market maker on the gold and silver metals desk. Stephen leads the group’s commercial activities while working closely with institutional clients and partners.

John Brett

Chairman

John Brett is the Chairman of Newscape Group. John works with the CEO and Executive teams to devise and implement overall corporate and distribution strategy. He has over 30 years’ experience with over 20 in investment management. Prior to joining Newscape John held senior executive roles at Aberdeen Asset Management (AAM) and Scottish Widows Investment Partnership (SWIP). John originally trained as and worked as a lawyer in Aberdeen. He joined Aberdeen Asset Management (AAM) in 1997 where he was Head of Legal before joining Scottish Widows Investment Partnership (SWIP) to hold director roles in Legal Risk and Compliance and then Sales and Marketing. He returned to Aberdeen Asset Management as Global Head of Distribution at AAM and was on the Group Executive Committee with responsibility for a 500-plus team based across 30 offices in 24 countries.

John Harrison

Non-Executive Director

John is a Non-Executive Director of Newscape Capital Group. John holds several other Non-Executive appointments including his role as Chairman of ASX-quoted Peninsula Energy Ltd, a uranium mining business with assets in Wyoming, USA and the Karoo in South Africa. He is also Chairman of West Cumbria Mining Ltd, a private equity-funded company developing a substantial metallurgical coal mine in Cumbria, UK, to supply the European steel industry.
John was a Managing Director at Numis Securities Ltd and UK Executive Chairman of RFC Ambrian Ltd. As a corporate financier advising in both an M&A and Equity Capital markets context, he acted for companies quoted on the Main List and the Alternative Investment Markets of the London Stock Exchange, as well as the Australian, Johannesburg and Toronto Stock Exchanges.

John Owens

Non-Executive Director

John Owens is a Board Advisor at Newscape and advises the business on pension fund investment and risk management methodology. Currently a Principal at global placement firm First Avenue, John began his career as a pensions manager before moving to consultancy where he provided advice on all aspects of pension fund benefit design, insurance of risk benefits risk and investment strategy. For the last 20 years John has worked for a variety of asset managers where he was responsible for establishing and running highly regarded and successful investment sales, client service and consulting relationship teams across a wide range of market segments, including IFA’s, fund of fund providers, manager of manager and investment consultants. John has been a regular speaker at trustee training events, sits on a series of industry judging panels and been voted marketer of the year by his peers.

Philippe Bonnefoy

Senior Advisor to the Board

Philippe Bonnefoy is Senior Advisor to the Board at Newscape. Philippe has been managing money globally for over 30 years having built a number of successful investment businesses including the Cedar Fund which was sold to Erste Bank AG in 2007 and Cedar Partners Investment Management (formerly COMAS Management), which was the external investment advisor to Commerzbank for alternative investments. Philippe’s other roles have included Managing Director responsible for trading and international activities for one of the world’s largest proprietary trading firms established by former Kidder, Peabody’s & Co. executives. He began his career at Kidder, Peabody & Co. in New York in corporate finance before joining the team that founded the International Investment business in London where he managed the international equity portfolios for the BHP Pension Fund and other institutional clients.

Charlie Morris

Chief Investment Officer

Charlie Morris is Chief Investment Officer at Newscape having joined in May 2016 to restructure and oversee the direct Funds business. He is the Lead Manager of the Newscape Diversified Growth Fund, the Co-Manager to the Newscape Emerging Markets Equity Fund and is a senior member of the investment committee where he is involved with all of the firms investment activity. Prior to Newscape Charlie spent 17 years at HSBC Global Asset Management as the Head of Absolute Return managing a multi-asset fund range with assets in excess of $3 billion. He is a familiar face in the financial media and writes frequently as the editor of the Fleet Street Letter Britain’s oldest financial newsletter. Prior to fund management, Charlie was an officer in the Grenadier Guards, British Army.

James Hutson

Head of Portfolio Construction

James is Head of Portfolio Construction at Newscape. He commenced his career in the City in 1999 as an Equity Analyst with Societe Generale, and subsequently with Keefe, Bruyette and Woods. After more than 10 years analysing the financial sector, James moved in to wealth management holding senior positions including Chief Investment Officer and MD at Rowan Dartington. He holds an MBA (Finance) from City University Business School and has been ranked by Extel, Institutional Investor and Starmine.

Sam Polson

Executive Director

Prior to joining Newscape Sam spent ten years with Australian based Investment Bank, Macquarie Group. His experience spans Institutional Equity Sales Trading in Asia, Capital Markets and Investment Advice in Sydney Australia where he worked with a number of Australia’s premier companies and Families. Sam brings a depth of financial services and global markets experience to the team. He holds a Master of International Economics and Finance and a Bachelor of Business Management from the University of Queensland, Australia.

Fahad Hassan

Portfolio Manager

Fahad Hassan is a Senior Portfolio Manager at Newscape with over 13 years’ experience in fund management managing both retail and institutional equity mandates. He was previously with Legal and General Investment Management before joining Newscape and combines fundamental screening with detailed understanding of industry specific drivers to generate investment ideas. At Newscape Fahad is the Lead Manager to the Newscape Emerging Market Equity Fund, a co-Manager on the Diversified Growth Fund and Fund Manager responsible for Portfolio Construction of the LGBT Diversity Fund having devised and built the quantitative models. Fahad is a CFA institute charter holder and is currently studying for the Chartered Wealth Manager certification.

Khalifa Bin Khadim

Head of MENA Relations

Khalifa Bin Khadim is a Relationship Manager at Newscape. His role is primarily focused on strategic relationship management across the MENA region as well as day to day input into the development of the business in London. An entrepreneurial and accomplished executive, Khalifa is involved at the most senior corporate and government levels in the MENA region as well as significant strategic relationships in the UK, US and Asia. His experience and knowledge spans corporate business including import export finance and cross border business support, as well as family offices, finance and real estate development.

Boris Bohrer-Bilowitzki

Senior Relationship Director

Boris is a Senior Relationship Manager at Newscape. He specialises in bespoke high net-worth strategic and structural planning as well as execution, focusing on clients from Central and Eastern Europe. Having previous experience in Corporate Finance he is also strongly involved in Newscape’s Capital Markets division. Boris has an academic background in Business Administration and Law, holding an MBA and LL.M from Imadec University in Vienna. He has 10 years of professional experience in Business Development and Relationship Management in various positions in Austria, Liechtenstein and London.

Daniel Mermina

Director of Investment Operations

Daniel is Director of Investment Operations at Newscape Capital Group where he is responsible for running and overseeing investment operations at the firm. Previously he was Senior Analyst responsible for conducting research on collective investments schemes, closed end funds, investment trusts and other securities. Daniel graduated from the University of Birmingham with a B.Sc. (Honours) Physics and Astrophysics and holds the IMC.

Ieva Katiliute

Investor Relations Associate

Ieva is Investor Relations Associate at Newscape Capital Group. She is responsible for relationship management and public relations. She has previously worked on tech start-ups with responsibilities of capital raising and business development. Ieva graduated from the University of Westminster with a BSc in Finance with Management.

Ryan Janpas

Analyst

Ryan recently graduated with a first class honorary degree in International business and Entrepreneurship. Prior to joining Newscape he completed a traineeship programme at Julius Baer. Ryan’s experience spanned across investment consulting and acquisitions, and Portfolio management, where he worked directly with senior portfolio managers, providing analytical data on portfolio performance, as well as managing cash and investment products.

Zain Mitha

Analyst

Zain is an analyst at Newscape Capital Group who specialises in building quantitative models to support the investment team with data analytics. Zain recently graduated with a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bristol with Honours. Prior to joining Newscape, he was academically published for his work on variability in dynamics.

Mathias Thøfner

Analyst

Mathias is an analyst at Newscape Capital Group where he is responsible for trade settlements and conducting research for the investment team. Mathias recently graduated from Zealand Business College, Denmark where he studied Business and Innovation. He is currently undertaking a traineeship at Newscape with Trainees Abroad (PIU Denmark).

Chris Hume

Head of Compliance

Chris is Head of Compliance at Newscape. Chris has responsibility for implementing and managing the firms’ compliance and regulatory functions while serving as Compliance Officer and Money Laundering Reporting Officer alongside responsibility for Systems and Controls. A qualified Chartered Certified Accountant (FCCA) with over 30 years experience, Chris changed career in 1993 to specialise in compliance. He has over 19 years compliance experience, the majority of this spent at Lazard Brothers London where, originally an internal auditor for the business, he subsequently became Compliance Officer working directly with the Group Compliance Director. More recently Chris has worked as Compliance Policy Manager at Tri Alpha Investment Advisors and as a compliance consultant providing compliance services including monitoring to regulated firms of Asset Managers, Venture Capitalists and Corporate Financiers.
